Whether it is a Victorian terrace getting a new ground floor or a fresh build plot in Prenton, we bring the liquid floor screed and pump it in by hose. Ring or message us first and we will work out together what your floor needs.

Roberts Concrete Pumping is a family firm from Cheshire. Book liquid screed in Birkenhead with us and the same crew brings the material, runs the hose to your room and levels the pour, so the job is never passed between a supplier and a separate installer. Beyond the Wirral we also work across Merseyside, Cheshire, Greater Manchester and over the Welsh border.
If you have not come across it before, liquid floor screed arrives as a runny, self-levelling mix rather than a stiff mortar. Once it is pumped into a room it spreads out and settles flat by itself, which is why it pairs so well with underfloor heating, new extensions and ground floors being rebuilt in a renovation. The material travels through a hose, so the vehicle can stay on the street while the screed goes along a hallway or down a back entry.
Most enquiries reach us through a builder, a heating installer or a merchant. The questions are nearly always practical: is the base ready, can the pour slot in without holding up the plasterer or kitchen fitter, and will the house be left tidy afterwards. We answer all of that before a date goes in the diary.

Where it's used
Ground and upper floors on new houses, poured once the roof, windows and doors are on and the insulation is down.
Open-plan kitchens and garden rooms where the new floor has to meet the old one at the same height.
The mix runs under and around every pipe, so there are no air gaps and warmth spreads across the whole room.
Period homes where a worn ground floor is taken out, insulated and rebuilt as part of a bigger refurbishment.
Contractors who need the pour timed around other trades, whether it is one house or a run of plots.

A lot of Birkenhead dates from the nineteenth century. Hamilton Square and the grid of streets around it were started in the 1820s, Oxton grew into a Victorian commuter village of terraces, stone cottages and stuccoed villas, and Rock Ferry expanded to house workers at the Cammell Laird shipyard. When houses of that age are renovated, the ground floor is often lifted and rebuilt with insulation, and that is a sensible moment to add underfloor heating and finish with liquid screed.
The town is also where most of the Wirral's new building is heading. The Wirral Local Plan, adopted in March 2025, is a brownfield-only plan, and the Birkenhead 2040 Framework sets out regeneration across the town centre, Woodside, Hind Street and Wirral Waters, where Peel's long-term plans run to around 13,500 homes on the old docks. At Hind Street, ION Developments is planning about 1,600 homes, with a first phase of 633 lined up to begin in 2027.
Terraced streets in Tranmere, Rock Ferry and around Birkenhead Park rarely leave room for a mixer anywhere near the back of the house. Pumping gets round that, as the hose can follow a back entry or come through the front door to reach the room. We have no office in Birkenhead: we drive over from Cheshire via the M53 and plan each pour around your street and your build.
How it works
Ring or WhatsApp with your postcode, roughly how many m2, what the room will be used for, whether UFH is going in and your target date.
Before booking we go through the base with you: insulation, edge strip, membrane and, if fitted, the heating pipes.
We pump the liquid screed into the room and level it, working to a time agreed with you and the other trades.
The floor is left to set, and we explain how to look after it while it dries and when it can be tested for flooring.
Before pour day
If a different approach would work better for your floor, we will say so at the start.
Why Roberts
The people you speak to on the phone are the people who run the business and turn up on the day.
We run concrete line and boom pumps too, so getting material into tight or distant spots is routine for us.
Size, access, preparation, heating and timing are all agreed before pour day, not discovered on it.
We work for homeowners, builders and site teams, and adapt the job to whoever is running it.
Questions
Yes. We take liquid screed jobs across CH41, CH42 and CH43, which takes in central Birkenhead, Claughton, Oxton, Prenton, Tranmere, Rock Ferry, Bidston and Noctorum, and we work elsewhere on the Wirral too. If your postcode starts with CH, get in touch.
You can usually walk on it after a day or two, but it is only ready for flooring once a moisture test says so. For anhydrite products a common guide is roughly a day per millimetre for the first 40mm, slowing after that. Depth, temperature, airflow and the product all change the figure.
There is no single rate: the price depends mostly on the floor area, the depth, the type of screed and how far the hose has to run. We do not publish a price list, so send us the rough size, depth and access and we will quote for your floor.
Not directly onto joists. Liquid screed needs a solid, prepared base, so when an old timber ground floor comes out, your builder or designer specifies the new build-up underneath. Once that, the insulation and the membrane are in, we pump the liquid screed on top.
Usually, yes. The screed travels through a hose, so it can go along a back entry or through the house to a room at the rear. We ask about the route from the road before we book so the day runs smoothly.
We do both: we supply the liquid screed and install it. We do not hire out pumps without an operator, because how the floor is poured and levelled matters as much as the material.
Sometimes. It can be laid on suitable upper floors where the structure is designed to take the weight and the floor is properly prepared. A builder or structural engineer needs to confirm that before we book.
Ring 03335 671 153 or WhatsApp 07402 749351 with the rough floor size and when you need it. We will tell you honestly what the job involves.
